Malvern Hill is the common name for this variety of pear, because the trees are said to grow as tall as the Malvern Hills. However, its correct name is the Moorcroft Pear.

Bottle at home, picked up from the farm. A very clear, peachy gold coloured pour with a fading loose white head. Aroma is semi sweet, golden pear, brown sugars, apple, light funk. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, some unrefined sugars, hint of spicy vinegar, hint of mouldy funk, sugar, . lingering condensed pear and appel. Palate is semi sweet, light vinegar, low / no carbonation. Very drinkable for 7.5 %

Bottle 750ml.
Clear light to medium yellow colour with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy pear, sweet pear, light celery and barnyard, cheese notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and light light acidic with a average to long duration, dry. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat. [20111105]

Bottle, 75cl. It’s an almost colorless perry, some yellowish tints though. Clear. The aroma is on the fruity side, pears and apples, and some farmyard hints. Some sulphur notes in both aroma and flavor. Else there’s pears dominating the flavor, something I don’t recognize blends in. It’s quite sweetish too, medium to full bodied and quite oily. A decent perry, but not very interesting. 111105

Bottle from Tanner’s Wines, Hereford. Slightly hazy, pale gold with a small amount of short-lived carbonation. Big, sweet pear juice aroma with some yeast character and touch of wood. Flavour was also dominated by attractive sweet pears, with some accompanying spice, and a touch of sugar in the finish. An excellent sweet perry.

Bottle from Oakchurch Farm Shop, Staunton on Wye, Herefordshire, consumed 11-10-09 Pours a very, very light silvery gold colour, it’s as clear as a bell. Soft sweet juicy pears on the aroma. The taste is of soft sweet pear, touch overipe, little bit of dustiness from somewhere (glass was clean?), really just loads of lovely squishy overipe pear, bit sweet possibly and a totally differnet perry to the recently tried Thorn but nonetheless, it’s very, very good.
