On tap at Haand Festival. An unclear, dark golden-orange beer topped by a minimal-sized off-white head. The aroma has alcohol, camphor, butterscotch, spices, a faint pine note and some vanilla. It’s quite bitter in the mouth with hints of aquavit. Slightly warming, full-bodied, with flavors of pine cones, butterscotch, caramel, camphor and some oak and vanilla. An interesting experiment, but not a beer I’d recommend releasing in bottles. 130524

Sampled @ Haand 2013. Hazy, dirty orange body with a very small white head that disappears fast. Strong and unusually aroma of aquavit, bourbon, menthol and perfume. Strange but not bad, actually quite nice in the nose. Flavor is interesting as well, but a bit out of balance. Alcohol, sweet malt, fruity, berries, wood, bourbon and aquavit with moderate bitterness. Totally crazy weirdness, thanks Ægir!

Appearance: Hazy nutty brown color with a small tan layer.
Aroma: Weird aroma. Some aromas I recognize from work at The Hospital. Wood, aquavit, fruity and licorice.
Palate: Thick body. Slightly sweet and an ok bitterness. Soft, or no carbonation.
Taste: Malty, wood, licorice, aquavit, fruity, some hoppy notes, medicine….
Overall impression: Weird and funny. Nice festival ale. No idea how to score this one!
Personal stats: On tap @ Haand13.

25.05.2013, straight from the barrel @ HaandFestival:
No head. Aroma is funky spicy fruity, aquavit, spices, alcohol, wood, citrus peel, citrus, soap. Taste is spiced aquavit, wood, butterscotch, grass, perfume, wet leafs, soap. Dry mouthfeel, longlasting bitterness. Don’t really like it, but it was still very interesting.

Served directly from the barrel at Haand Beer Festival 2013, Drammen. room temperature. Hazy brown colour, minimal natural carbonation (if any). Intense and unusual sweetish aroma, over-ripe fruits and berries, bourbon, vanilla, aquavit and spices. Very spicy, sweet and hoppy flavour - would have been better if served colder and with some carbonation.
