Azacca is a big favourite here at Polly's HQ and for good reason. Named for the Haitian god of agriculture, and bred specifically to accentuate the intense sweet, tropical notes it imparts, we find this varietal grossly underused and underrated in a sea of more popular hype hops. Letting it do its thing in a single hop showcase seemed the most fitting tribute for this awesome hop, and in a "well, why not" move we decided to up the dry-hop bill to DIPA levels, with an insane 40kg added during fermentation.

Wrapped up in a hearty lashing of LA3 for maximum suspension, the result is a thick, juicy IPA, bursting with tonnes of mango, stone fruit, and pineapple notes, before levelling off with a healthy tickling of bitterness on the end.

On tap at Brew Festival. It pours a whiteish yellow unclear body and a small white head. The aroma is a bit weak, piney and grassy, with a good dash of grapefruit. It's dry and bitter on the palate, nicely carbonated, with a mostly fruity flavor. Grapefruit, pine cones, grass and a touch of citrus zest. Fruity finish. A bit dull and one dimensional, but decent indeed. 220429

Superficial festival rating at Brew Festival, Oslo 2022. Friday session. Hazy yellow golden body under a small white head. Medium strong aroma, citric and trooical juice. Taste is fruity like aroma, moderate bitterness. Medium body and same aftertaste. All these NEIPA’s at the same festival is a big challenge – so little variation and quite a patience test to find something to say about the beer. Not bad just very similar to about 50 other beers this evening. Refreshing but not outstaning in any direction.

Can. Hazy yellowish gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, slightly viscous even, unusual for the abv. Decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a smooth creamy sweetness. Smooth but somewhat intense pine. A savoury bitterness in the mid. Spicy piney citrus peel. Light finish. It's hops but delivered slightly differently, hard to pin down, just a shift in emphasis. Interesting, but not lighting my fire.
