From tap at Kernel taproom in Bermondsey 12.08.22. Dark mahogany. Brown head. Inviting, complex and well-balanced aroma and taste of dark malts, dried berries, rasins, a hint of bonfire and grapefruit and pine bitterness. Good quaffability.

Bottle from Hogs Back Brewery shop. Aroma combines berries with sweet mocha and malts. Opaque dark brown. Thick fluffy foamy off-white head. Initial caramel sweetness before the resinous hops kick in. The caramel sweetness remains into the finish though. Medium bodied. Thin creamy mouthfeel. Average carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. Hoppy but still sweet Brown Ale.

Bottle from House of Trembling Madness. It pours darkest brown with a thick, fluffy, lasting khaki head. The aroma is toasty malts, nutty, pine, cacao nibs, touch of toffee, liquorice, old fashioned cola, hint of marmalade, old leather sofa and pipe tobacco. The taste is dry, bitter, toasty, earthy roasted malt, charred notes, umami, big hit of fresh coffee beans, bitter dark chocolate, toasted pine, peppery spice, toasted brown bread and only a touch of underlying sweetness with a toasty finish. Medium body and moderate, velvety carbonation. Well out together and flavourful. Classic Kernel.

Superficial festival rating at Brew Festival, Oslo 2022. Saturday session 1. Slightly unclear dark brown body under a small, tan head. Nice aroma, mostly malt and bread but also hint of caramel, fruit and pine. Taste is sweet malty, bred, hint of fruit and pine. Fine body and same aftertaste. Nice brown ale, but feels a bit sharp (lesser smooth) in flavor. Perhaps it needs just a little bit more time for storage.
