What if Olde Hickory and De Molen meet? At the time of brewing, it was immediately decided to put it in Port barrels, this Imperial Stout with honey was the perfect match for this. Due to the aging in the Port barrels, the characteristic roasted malt, chocolate and caramel aromas of the Stout weaken slightly. On the other hand, this Imp. Stout extra red fruit characters and a well-present vinousness due to the tannins present in the barrels, which makes the beer nicely balanced

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Strong Port barrel with plenty of oaky notes, dark fruit, grape, dark malt, some roast and a hint of dark chocolate. Not sweet with a little tartness, fairly dry finish. Body could be a bit more full. Ends with more wood and Port.

Bottle from Pivny Raj. Very dark brown color with beige head. Aroma of dark malt, chcolate, Port, coconut from barrels, light caramel. Taste is very intense with dark mmalt, carmael, chocolate, light honey, Port, oak. Alcohol is dangerously hidden with only light warmth. Body is medium, I would expect full bodied beer with this amount of alcohol. Very enjoyable beer.

Bottle. A black one with a small dark beige head. The aroma has a delicious sourish oaked touch, with roasted malts, licorice, soy sauce, alcohol and some coffee. It's full bodied and warming, sweet, with a sour hint. Gentle carbonation. Roasted malts, coffee, soy sauce, licorice, sweetness, alcohol, oak notes and some sour hints in the flavor. Lasting finish. Really delicious this one, the barrel ageing really adds a dimension. 240621

0.33 l bottle from 'Mr. Hop', best before January 2027. Pitch black with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty, quite vinous-fruity aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, port, raisins, plum and a touch of oak. Fairly sweet, malty, quite roasty, rather vinous-fruity taste of dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee, licorice, roasted hazelnut, quite some port, red wine, vanilla, some oak and maybe a touch of honey, followed by a long, rather roasty-bitter, slightly woody-dry, minimally tart finish. Medium to full body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Intense and complex beer, great match of flavours, maybe a bit too heavy on the barrel, a bit disharmonious and unbalanced.

Bottle at home 12/02/2024 Dark roasted malty with lots of chocolate, some caramel and fudge, and as it warms up some of that port washed barrel character comes in with some red grape tannins, full body, vinous dark malty lingering warming finish. Very nice.
