Against all odds, above the 49th Parallel North grows a hearty, spiny, sour bush. Despite the amazingly harsh conditions of its environment, defiant, glowing orange orbs of acid break through and flourish. You may have never heard of Sea Buckthorn, but chances are you have encountered it in your everyday life. These little globes of joy are the most acidic fruit we’ve ever encountered. Primarily scooped up entirely by the cosmetics industry for their high Omega 3-6-9 fatty acid contents, we had to search far and wide for our sour orange friends. This batch of Sea Buckthorn is of Siberian provenance, and with enough acidity to make facial motor function cease. We had a relatively difficult time with the solubility of this blend. We hadn’t accounted for the high fatty acid content of the fruit making it completely insoluble in solution. After some time on fruit, we ended up with half of the tank with teeth-meltingly sour liquid, and the other half of the tank with only the base beer blend. Suffice to say, after much work, we solved our solubility issues, but this release owns the title of the most stubborn blend we’ve made to date. However, the citrus-like fruit quality, combined with our blend selection makes all the memories of the production pains melt away. Enjoy!

Bottle, 75cl, at Patricks. A mostly clear one, deep golden in color, with just a rim of white bubbles. Funky aroma with cellar, cork, biscuity malts, some berries and fruityness. Sort of vinous and orangey but very gently. It's tart, full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated, with a mostly fruity flavor. Less biscuity, tending more towards bread crust. Still, the funk and fruit has more room than the malts. Lasting fruity and tart finish. Can't really say I reckognized the sea buckthorn at any stage, but I guess they went for an amount where it doesn't take full control, which it easily can. A delicious and a bit weird beer. 230929

Shared bottle @ Patricks. Almost clear deep golden with a small, lacing off-white ring around the edge of my glass. Mild funky, fruity, acidic berries aroma. Taste smooth, mild sweet and acidic with citric fruit, sour berries, lemon and zest. Nice balance in both taste and body, smooth and tasty.

Notes from FHF 2022 (Aug 06, 2022): Hazed orange gold with small white head. Get a bit of sea buckthorn with mild funk, decent.

Mellow character. Some orange, sweetish but leading to a tart, sharp finish. Overall, though, it's fairly simple.

Bottle sample at Farmhouse Fest 2022, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out musty orange zest, earthiness and light oak. Flavour is oaky, with orange zest, earhtiness, and tartness. Good but nothing special.
