Bottle. This rates as one of the more pointless beers I’ve ever tried. If you want an excellent example of what a watered down caramel malt beer tastes like, this may be your guy. Otherwise there are plenty of options on the shelf. Best aspect is definitely the nice copper/amber color. Most of this made its way down the drain. Life is too short.

Sweet malt and grainy aroma. Clear golden copper body with a medium frothy off-white head with good retention. Dry caramel flavor, some light biscuit. Bitter finish. Medium body with fairly high carbonation.

This is in a clear brown bottle. No apparent carbonation when I pour. The smell is a very mild beery aroma, pretty clean. The taste is laid back with hints of mustiness. Taste is more like a pale ale than a dark beer. Very well behaved. No or mild aftertaste and linger. Good carbonation even without aesthetic indicators. Those Dutch really know how to brew beer. This is a very nice amber with manners at first but then it begins to show it’s true colors. Stronger alky american malt liquor finish. Becomes rather rude like memories of City Ice and King Lager.

Bottled at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok. Clear brownish amber, creamy head. Papery nose. Sweetish and lightly caramelly up front. Fairly light bodied with clean mouthfeel and notes of roasty malt.Drier finish with a touch of grass. A decent macro beer.

Bottle. I don’t remember this one too much. IT was alright, a little sweet, and had a fine finish.

Bottled (BB 12/2005)
Amber color (suprise!), decent head. Skunky grassy hoppy aroma with some dry roasted malts and metal. Bitterish with toffee sweetness. Aftertaste is hoppy. Drinkable but easy to forget -beer.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a huge off-white bubbly head with good retention (even leaves mark after each sip on my glass which is quite good for macro-type beer. Aroma is only about malt, but it’s so weak that I would qualify this as neutral aroma. Taste is mildly refreshing with again malt being the only thing really noticeable. Overall lack of character does not make this beer very interesting.

I find most Altbiers to be very refreshing yet lacking in overall intensity and this one fit that same pattern. I liked this better than the regular Grolsch Lager however, perhaps because it was in a brown, rather than a green, bottle. Pleasant but it's merely a stepping stone between American macros and the well crafted beers of the world.

Dark amber/caramel in colour with a dense off-white head-looks like a coca-cola with a head! Aroma of caramel, malt and a sweet freshness-not offensive at all! Medium to Light-bodied; Strong malty taste with a metallic twang-not too pleasant. Aftertaste shows the metal and a bit of sweetness. Overall, not really worth trying unless you want to try all available imports! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia and sampled it on 27-November-2003.
