Holy Goat say “This Flanders Red style beer was fermented on Pinot Noir skins from grapes grown in Crouch Vale, Essex brought to us by our friends at Pastore. After three months on the skins we blended it with stock beer aged in red wine barrels. The resultant blend was conditioned on 100g/l of local Scottish redcurrants and third-use whole Frederiksdal sour cherries.”

12.68 oz bottle. Aroma has notes of cherries, wood, almond, metal. Pours hazy amber with a one finger beige head with good retention. Taste is highly sour (8/10) and slightly sweet with dark fruit flavors. I noticed a metallic off-note at first but it seems to have disappeared. Very good.

[notes] Poured from bottle @ FHF 2023 (Aug 12, 2023). Hazy brown with small beige head. Lots of oak, a bit earthy, some mild vinous notes, decent.

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark reddish amber with moderate head. Aromas of plums, red berries, and oak. Flavors of a nice Flanders Red, with plums skins, a little balsamic vinegar, red berries and sharp wheat.

Dark sour, with a cherry character. Lightly vinous, and mellow. Acetic, maybe a bit too acetic for me.

Bottle pour at Farmhouse Fest 2023, pours a deep dark red with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of wood, Worcestershire sauce, tart dark fruits, and oak. Flavour is complex, with lots of tart dark fruits, wood, oak and some Worcestershire sauce. Oaky, woody and pleasantly tart. Excellent.

A taster shared with Josh, Matt, Phill, and Ryan during FHF with priceless Rachel's (yup, again!) help in organizing all the mess with glasses. Appearance: dark copper with a beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, some sweetness. Taste: same, moderately acidic. Overall: ok.

Keg at Black Iris taproom, Notts get together, 07/07/23. Unclear reddish amber with a beige swirl that retains well. Nose is tarte fruit rinds, vinous, balsams, cherry skins, cherry tobacco. Taste comprises sharp citric zest, funk, tangy dried fruits, lactic squeeze, red berry must, vinous strains, damp oak, dry rot. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light acidic throat scrape. Solid for the style.
