Bottle on sale at Cave a Bulle. Page 24 Biere de Noël is an amber winter ale 6.9% picked up at Cave a Bulles in Paris and drunk there during my trip. It pours a deep reddish brown with a thick beige head. The nose is a malty sweet breadiness with a touch of spices. Med-light bodied with a soft pillowy mouthfeel. The taste is nutty, boozy, cinnamon biscuits and sugared plums. Seasonally appropriate flavor profile. A pretty average Christmas beer.

Bottle shared in Belgium - picked up at a Carrefour. Pours clear amber with a big, billowing yellowy off-white head. The nose holds lots of bready malts, caramel and toasted sugars. Medium sweet flavor with sugary, lightly toasted malts, hints of cereal and caramel; but thankfully the sweetness is never excessive. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Lightly dried caramel in the finish with further toasty, rich bread. A very nice biere de garde. Pretty well balanced and drinkable.

75 cl bottle @ Timo A, BBE 03/2010
Aroma has malty notes typical to old beers. Also raisins and hints of cardboard. Flavour is rather malty with some metallic savor, some raisins and hints of metal. Quite well preserved, even though the taste is a bit short.

750ml bottle split with Anndiesel. Unfiltered burgundy brown. I really enjoy the subtle, delicate malt nuances of a French Bierre de Garde, and it is always a pleasure to try another. This one leans into Belgian Christmas Ale/WInter Warmer territory, with luscious amber malt tones, and some candied fruitcake flavors. Overall displays a great balance. A touch of bitter balancing bitterness up front leads toasty, clean malt finish, touches of raisin and cherry. Right on, a great Christmas beer.

Purchased from Carrefour in Steenvorde (petrol stop) and split with Leighton and Bruce in J98 LLY en route to Kortrijk. Lightly hazed dark amber with a big frothy biege head that retains well. Nose is toffee, yeast, clove, banana, spice. Taste comprises yeasts, toffee, light spice, brown sugars, touch of booze, hint of smoke. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, some bitterness in the finish. Ok stuff.
