Kern River Brewing changed the West Coast IPA game with beers like “Just Outstanding” IPA – that harnessed the punchy qualities of what were sexy but the underutilized hops of Simcoe and Amarillo – and “Citra” DIPA – employing the brand new Citra hop (how things have changed!). This collaboration is our thank you to, and high five with, them for inspiring Cellarmaker to brew highly aromatic and flavorful hoppy beers. For Absolutely Fantastic we incorporated Citra, Amarillo and Simcoe along with a dose of Cascade hops, all of which bring hop expression that seems classic and eternally modern at the same time.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated June 09, 2025.
Aroma is hop forward and dank with a ton of that classic Simcoe wet, oily pine resin. Lighter grapefruit with some tangerine as well. Hints of tropical fruit. Medium light cracker malt and light alcohol notes.
Pours a rather clear golden color with a moderately sized, thick, pillowy, white head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers in clumps on the edges.
Flavor is somewhat sweet with moderate cracker malt notes. Fairly high, somewhat assertive bitterness with light alcohol notes. Lots of grapefruit, tangerine and tropical citrus. Lighter notes of tropical fruit and dank, oily pine resin.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a solid West Coast IPA. So much classic citrus and piney hop.aroma and flavor. The style has moved on from this hop profile, but it's fun to revisit and reminisce about how it used to be.

Taste: nice, good bitterness, fruity, a bit dank, peaches and mango. Aftertaste: dry, a bit resinous, some orange peel, hoppy, nice stuff.
