Can from Lekkerbier, Sint Nicolaasga. Big ripe fruity aroma with sugary orange, some vanilla, wood, soft notes of whiskey, apricot. Nicely sweet, medium to full body. In between IIPA & hoppy Barleywine, I have a thing for this style. Very nice.

Canned (from Alko Web shop). Deep reddish amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is bourbon, some sweet Madeira with ripe fruits, alcohol, caramel and mild dates. Flavour is caramel malts, some dates, plums, raisins and mild alcohol with some Madeira and sweet wooden tones. A bit boozy, but otherwise quite nice.

11 May 2022. At Hal 16 (Dok Brewing). Cheers to the Teamleader crew!
Hayz black, huge, foamy, beige head. Aroma of lots of bourbon, green apple, biscuit, gingerbread, clove, candied plum, pear, cookie, wet wood. Taste has sweet pear, plum & green apple; biscuit maltiness with hints of cookie spices & caramel. Herbal hoppy finish, dried fruit, wood, touch of vanilla & boozy bourbon alcohol. Medium to full body, oily-sticky texture, soft carbonation. A taste explosion, undeniably, but somewhat crudely executed.

13/V/22 - on tap @ DOK Brewing Company (Gent), BB: n/a (2022-503)
Rather cloudy dark deep brown to almost black beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: alcohol, and… oh my, yes baby, that’s the shit! Nice and complex, lots of dried fruits, some whisky, caramel, soft roast, vanilla, very nice, love it! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: good roast, alcohol, dried fruits, earthy, sugary, caramel, lots of whisky, a bit oxidized, lovely stuff! Aftertaste: dried fruits, gentle roast, caramel, very nice, vanilla notes, lots of dark chocolate, earthy, a bit smoky, tobacco, alcohol, little bitter in the finish, very nice! Thanks to Anthony for hanging on to this beer for so long, the extra ageing really mellowed it out and made this very nice!

Another barrelled barleywine in this ongoing project, which has spawned beautiful sipping beers for five years now; can at Hal 16 in Dok Noord in Ghent, thanks to Steve for sharing. Pale greyish beige, thinnish, quickly open ‘ring’ for a head on a clear, deep chestnut brown beer with glowing coppery hue. Intense bouquet of candied dates, sweet bourbon, chestnut liqueur, medlar, figs soaked in ‘jenever’, candied cherries, treacle, biscuit, hazelnut paste, vanilla but also a clear varnish-like solvent aspect. Lots of residual sugars in the onset, sweet with some stickiness to it, medlar, candied fig and yellow raisin aspects, softly carbonated; thick oily and vinous body, fit for the intended style. Deep layers of toffeeish, hazelnutty and hard-caramelly maltiness ensue, filling the mouth cavity along with this continuing brown-sugary sweetness. The finish, however, brings a strong alcohol warmth, clearly bittersweet bourbon, heating and long, with the woody aspect of the barrel a bit subordinate to it; a herbal hop bitter note does appear in the tail, while the sweetness of malts and residual sugars does manage to absorb some of the bourbon heat and wryness – luckily. All’s well that ends well, and this one does end as a rich, desserty, vinous, intense barleywine the way it was intended. A tad too sweet for me personally perhaps and therefore not the best in this drawn-out series (not that I had them all, of course), but very obviously well made.
