Ommegang Biere de Mars is a Belgian-style dry hopped amber ale with a bit of magical space dust woven in Brettanomyces bruxellensis, a wild-yeast used in the secondary fermentation. The Brett imparts added tartness, a bit of zing and some farmhouse funkiness.

Biere de Mars reveals a copper-amber body and a frothy white head that builds, clings and stays. Aromas are of malt and grain, clove, fruit and a bit of funk. Flavors are full-bodied with delicate malty sweetness, followed by spicy, peppery yeastiness and Brett-induced funk. Hopping is subtly bitter and aromatic, bumped up a bit by dry hopping. The finish is dry and gently lingering.

Batch #2 bottled in October 2008. Bottle aged nearly 3 years. Pours a slightly translucent, dark copper with a huge beige head. The aroma is caramel, apricots, coriander, and a definite funk. The flavor is very sour and bitter. The palate is medium to heavy, with lots of carbonation and a citrus acidity and astringency. This is a powerful and funky beer, with a great aroma and mouthfeel.

Bottled @ Chad’s house. Back when I was 19, I thought New Belgium Biere de Mars was the best beer ever. Five years later I first tasted this beer and was blown away. Pours a cloudy, burnt orange appearance with a fluffy, off white head. Belgian yeasty, Bretty, citrusy nose. Flavor is yeasty, orange citrusy, Bretty, mildly sour, a little bready, and belgian. Bretty, citrusy aftertaste. Really amazing!

yum yum gimmee some...this is absolutely delicious. I was a little skeptical when i was buying it, just thinking to myself, whats the difference between this and ommegang’s ommegeddon? seems like the same thing, ya? but although they are similar, ommegeddon relys more on the brett than this one does. this is like a belgian pale with brett added. the fruit and spice are upfront here, but the funk isnt lost, its right there in the background making this a very special beer.

Bottle shared by beerloco at dinner. Pours red with white head. Nose and taste of tart fruits, sour cherry funk, vegetable, yeast and lots of lovely brett.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94. Poured a cloudy yellow oxide with a tan head and a yellow hue. Aroma was fruity and had a note of sweet bread. There was a bit of supporting funk. Flavor began with a yeast note but became light with fruit and bread and had a bit of funk backing.

750 ml bottle. Dull golden color, large white head, mediocre retention. Aroma of sour orange. Taste is bready, doughy, and a bit sour. Interesting.

Candied banana nose. Cloudy orange, medium head with poor retention. Grassy orange and banana flavor, slight mustiness. Lemon zest finish. Great balance and complexity. Nicely hopped for the style. Brett is there, but subdued. Alcohol well concealed. A real treat.

750 ml bottle...6-18-2009....Tons of sediment in this copper/brown beer, beige thick fluffy head.....yeast and citrus nose...a bit stinky and sour (in a good way)....light zingy body....yeast and just light citrus flavors....no intense hops here....very effervescent....slight sour finish....not too bad...not bad at allll.....solid and mellows as it warms...first of this style for me
