Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is green apples, oak, dried fruits, figs, raisins, caramel malt, apple juice, toffee, cognac, notes of red wine and sherry. Flavour is medium sweet and mildly bitter. Bit harsh, body is medium. More flawed barrel aging from Kees with lots of unwelcome acetaldehyde getting in the way of this one.

Dark reddish brown, some light foam. Smell is deep, brandy, oak, dried fruit. Thick, smooth, boozy. Taste is very rich. Some malty sweetness, with a good bitter beneath it. Loads of dried fruit, some subtle sherry and cognac, plenty oak. Yummy!

0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', best before March 2021, cellared for about one-and-a-half years. Almost clear, ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of molasses, caramel, raisins, vanilla and a touch of booze. Fairly sweet, malty, moderately bitter and slightly fruity taste of molasses, caramel, raisins, vanilla, prunes and a touch of green apples, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, gently warming and slightly boozy finish. Full body, oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Pleasant Barley Wine! Not as boozy or off as in earlier ratings, I guess aging did its job here?!

Almost clear xeep amber beer, thin pale tan head. Light and smooth palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, light tangy caramel - toffee sweetness. Modest coffee tang. Little barrel aged emulsion paint overlaid by good ripe fruits which are the offspring of the various barrels. In order - sherry, cognac and lagging well behind ... Port. A mild spice on the smooth finish. Wasn't convinced about this one to start with, but it's a decent and grower!

Bottle. Nose is sherry, cherry, almond, sweet malt, brown sugar, plums, candied fruit. Taste is vanilla, big sherry, red wine, sweet malt, red berry, candied fruits, slightly nutty, chocolate, caramel, (hint of marshmellow??) touch of leather, brown sugar. Lots more barrel than beer in the finish, and I couldn't really find the cognac. It's enjoyable, but not a great beer.
