Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

Pours almost black with a thin, dark tan head. Aroma is cola, molasses, dark fruit, roast. Taste is lightly burned coffee and chocolate... Malty, highly carbonated. Slight hoppiness...increasing bitter as it goes.....very good.

It pours a dark brown and gives the same color body in my nonic. A one inch foamy tan head appears and lasts about a good two minutes before slowly dieing. The smell has the coffee notes up front with light chocolate and tobacco ever so slightly in the background. The taste is sweet and bitter going between the chocolate o the coffee and the tobacco, weird, different to me. The palate is about a medium, and fairly watery. It is extremely drinkable. Overall, this is just a tad above decent, and I don’t think I’d come back to this.

Another great product from Shipyard at the LCBO. Pours a dark brown colour with ruby highlights. The head is huge, beige, frothy-creamy, had long retention and small spot lacing all over. Fresh aromas of coffee at first pour, with eventually the alcohol sticking out with notes of vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruits. Wet, almost watery, medium-thin body. Thankfully, some mild dryness from the hop comes and saves this a bit. Mild hoppy taste, with some roasted malt, hints of coffee and vanilla. Quite easy to drink, as this is not heavy, but decent dark scent and flavours.

355ml bottle @ Pannuhuone, Kuopio

Pours pitch black with a small white head. Aroma of roasted malts, hints of chocolate, ash and leather. Taste is malty and slightly roasty with some sweet syrupy notes and hints of coffee. Finish is sticky and slightly roasty with some malty notes. Decent, a bit unbalanced porter.

35,5 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori, BBE 12/2012
Aroma is sweetish and rather srong on cocoa. Also some licorice and perhaps some distant vanilla notes too. Flavour is sweetish with salty licorice. A bit light but I like the strong licorice notes here. Better than I expected
