18 began life as an Imperial Brown Ale before we bombarded it with Scottish tayberries and purple raspberries and locked it away in rum barrels for two years, infusing rich dark fruit flavours and oaky warmth into the mix.
In a 21st century tribute to the ancient London tradition of blending stock and young ales, we then carefully blended it with a fresh & hoppy batch of specially brewed Black Ale, adding a burst of blackcurrant and citrus to this complex Imperial Brown.

Brewdog Abstrakt 18 an 11% imperial brown aged in rum barrels on berries. A cola brown with ruby highlights. Big malty sweetness and loads of rum. Medium bodied with a semi-dry finish. The taste is oaky, rum sharp berries then sweet caramel. Fun. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home, 28/07/16, #6170/12100. Murky light black with a khaki cap that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is chocolate malt, fruit cake, chocolate dipped strawberries, light spice, booze notes, treacle tart. Taste comprises sweet malts, light spice, toffee fudge, chocolate sauce, red berry infuse. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light warming alcohol in the close. Decent strong, good balance, nice depth to the flavour.

Bottle from Damian. Relatively simple beer on the surface, revealing rich subtle complexity upon closer look. Lots of dried fruits, wood, coconut, sherry, cherry. A touch of alcohol and roast. Definitely on the sweet side, with a warming finish.

Ruby- to purple-red sheen in opaque dark brown beer; small beige head. End of bottle solid yeast. Chocolate, roasted, hot culinary chocolate sauce. Faint fruity notes and a punch of alcoholstrength. Sweet, very roasted and nearly unacceptable liquorice, drop flavour, just petering out in the finish and getting a form of shoepolish. Very well-bodied, alcoholheat and medium to good carbonated feel. I can’t drink this. Not punk - or abstract - enough?
