A true seasonal favourite, Old Scrooge is full to the brim with flavours of liquorice and ginger to give it a rich, fiery palette for when the nights’ draw in. A dark ale with a strong bitter finish, this winter pint promises to pack a punch.

500 ml bottle shared by Sebilinz at RB Tasting Linz, thanks!
Black body, with a quite small, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of dark bread, dark chocolate, caramel, some coffee, slight vegetable notes.
Tastes of dark bread, spices, chocolate, coffee, dry cocoa, some liquorice.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes roasty, a bit sweet, with cocoa, coffee, liquorice.
Really a pleasant surprise. Very well balanced, smooth and quite unique. Pretty complex for this comparatively low ABV. Feels also a bit like a Foreign Stout. Great, traditional dark ale.

500ml bottle at Austrian RB Meeting in Linz shared by Sebilinz, many thanks. BB 04/2016. black color, small coffee-colored head. smells roast malt, strong smell of spices, russian bread, tobacco, light milky. very nice smell. medium to full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes malty roasty, some sweetness, dark fruits, molassses, light ash, rather medical, caramel. finishes with some sweetness and caramel. very lovely smell, unfortunatly the taste is a bit medical / bitter sweet for me. Overall nice, but not sure I would drink it again, the taste is rather distracting though.

Clear deep red - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry with good fine carbonation. Nice malts, rich but not thick. Good dark toffee, trace of creamy sweetness. Mild apple in the mid and a little bruised pear. The back end brings very mild floral spice. Minerally semi dry finish. Toffee linger. Nice.

500ml bottle from a Farm shop on the Welsh border. Firstly the bottle has a great label straight out of old Victorian England. Pours an evil pitch black with whisps of brown foam rising up like the mist of a dark old country village; it actually looks like it’s breathing. Earthy malts, rich, full tasting with figs, liquorice and forest leaves I can feel hairs sprouting out my chest as I’m drinking this.

Bottle at home. Pours a reddish brown with a thin white short-lived head. Aromas are all about Christmas - sugar, spice, fruit cake, cinnamon, honey. Taste is more of the same, but too much sugar for me. Very rich for the abv.
