We’ve definitely noticed a shift in what our drinkers want over our six years as an active brewery. From those early Loka Polly hop-drenched DDH IPAs, to the peak-lockdown DIPA, TIPA and QIPA fever craze to today, there’s been a wonderful evolution of trends that have made us have to think on our feet constantly and innovate within the parameters of what our fans and drinkers are seeking in their beer. With the current shift heading toward low and no beers, we’re eager to pack that flavour profile of a typical Polly’s beer into a smaller ABV. Small IPAs were a cult style in our first year at Polly’s and we’ve brought them back with aplomb – Blue Roses takes the baton carried by those bushy tailed and bright eyed brewers and takes it firmly into 2024.

On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a murky pale grapefruit with minimal white head and good lacing. Just some hints a lemon and peaches in the aroma. In the mouth it is briefly sweet and tangy, before bitter / sour undertones come through. Citrus is the mainstay of the flsvour with hints of pepper, harbs and tangerine leading to a slightly dry finish. Not my sort of beer at all – but I can tell it’s rather bland.

440ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Very light golden yellow, fairly hazy with a small uneven film of white head. Light notes of pomelo and lemon balm on the nose. Taste is bittersweet with gentle citrus and touches of white pepper. Medicinal bitter finish. Light body, carbonation on the low side. Decent.

Keg @ Tap and Can. Pours a misty golden yellow, white head. Big whiff of fruity grapefruit from the off. Impactful grapefruit action to taste, big bitterness. Cracking big hitter for 3.2%.
