Each spring, hop growers dust off their pruning shears and trim the first shoots, bolstering the bines for a rich growing season. First Cut – a mouthful of silky Simcoe and a touch of mango – is a nod to this ritual, without which the world would be a less hoppy place.

I did think the redneck that came here with his wife or baby mama met her parents, but no they are just gross, used up, whores that are drinking white wine and talking loudly with their chunky necklaces. The bartender somehow is worse. I hate this place.

$2 can from vintage. Perfumy dull hop nose. Pour is clear off pale with a big bubbly off white head. Taste is like the nose, dull aged hop beer feel. Big and bold with some co2 and jab to the palate. Peppery in the middle, with perhaps a little warming sensation. Pouring the rest of the can onto the glass makes everything cloudy. Finishes with a slight unpleasant feel that may turn away most pale lager lovers. Difficult and terribly on style. What else can be said?

12 ounce can into tulip glass; canned on 1/30/2019, best before 5/31/2019. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep golden/amber/light orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy mangoes, tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, light peppercorn, pine, cracker, toasted biscuit, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy mangoes, tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, light peppercorn, pine, cracker, toasted biscuit, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of mangoes, tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, light peppercorn, pine, cracker, toasted biscuit, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, fairly crisp/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 6.2%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited IPA. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish; not aggressive. Fantastic Comet/Simcoe profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops/fruit; with a great balanced bready malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding east coast tasting style example.

Weak IPA aroma. Mango taste, interesting hops on the palate. Never tried the comet or simcoe hops so it was interesting good beer but the wheat taste on the palate isn’t my favorite.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell. Clear orange-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of citrus, hops and malt. Light to medium body with flavors of grapefruit, mild hops and biscuit malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a peach and citrus aftertaste. Decent overall.

Very hazy orange and peach coloured body with a nice two to three centimetre tall pure white head that stays afloat for quite a while. Aroma of mangoes, papaya, guava, bright grassy and herbal hops and a bunch of other tropical fruits - nice and aromatic. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive guava and especially mango flavours with a great, slightly pungent hop kick from the higher alpha acid hops. Aftertaste shows some grass and a little sweetness from the fruits, but a ton of tropical fruity hop characteristics with the mangoes, guava, papaya and passionfruit, even, noticeable. Overall, a nicely nuanced IPA that shows a nice hoppy side of things, but an even better fresh fruit flavour of many different tropical fruits that show very nicely throughout and make this even more enjoyable. Definitely worth trying to find if you like IPAs and especially if you like 'New England' style IPAs or Tropical-Fruit based beers. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 27-February-2018 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Monroe, Connecticut with my brother and sister-in-law on 09-March-2018.

12oz can, not sure what it looked like, nose had orange and mango, some grass, a little candy. Flavor is more citrus than tropical, some dough/grist here, grass. Finishes bitter and lightly sweet too.
