Even though we don't brew an IPA, we can't deny that hops are deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. Bobbi was developed early in our joint homebrewing experiments. While we (obviously) like funky farmhouse beers, Geoffrey's wife is a hop fan. With that in mind, we explored how our subtly complex standard farmhouse ale would mix with a hop schedule of a tasty American Pale Ale. Would the funk and hops support each other or would the hops overpower everything?

Bobbi is a saison with new world hops - Loral, Citra and Mosaic. Brewed with barley and wheat grown in the Skagit Valley and malted by Skagit Valley Malts.

Draft pour pint enjoyed at Josh's Taps and Caps. Gotta try their IPA I suppose. Huge fan of hoppy sours, and though this doesn't ever really get sour, it gets close enough. Clean golden pour with a cream foam. Funky nose with a grassy background. Flavor is a touch dry, with a cool finish. Mildly juicy citrus hops. Barely a tart mid palate. Interesting and ultimately unique. Really enjoy this one.

1 pint can. Pours a pale gold with moderate head. Aromas of farmyard, wine gums, a little sulphur and very soft wheaty malts. Flavors of candied lemon, wine gums, reisling/fruity grapes, and a little more sulphur. Not sure about the sulphur but otherwise fruity and nice.

Bottle. Pours clear yellow, large white head, fluffy, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is citrus andc tropical hops, dust, lemongrass, dedicate floral notes. Light body, soft mouthfeel. Effervescent.

Hazy, straw colour. Thin head. Lots of brett C and barrel and maybe lemongrass. Mild tartness, nice barrel complexity. The lactic notes bring about a certain mandarin brightness, so there’s a dry, lively character that I feel has been the direction of new world saisons since Boulevard released Saison Brett. I’m down.

375mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is full of dank hops upfront, with some rustic saison yeast, and a bit of barnyard funk. Flavour is quite powerful on the dank hops, which almost overpower the saison elements, though there is some barnyard character in back. Well-constructed but almost more of an IPA with some saison yeast than a hoppy saison.
