On a whim (indeed, in the spirit of Charlie), we moved a portion of his namesake low-alcohol (2% abv) Farmstead® ale onto a few hundred pounds of pomace from organically grown plums, grown by nearby Elmore Roots and which had given up its initial fruit bounty to Plum: 2020 Harvest. After some time in contact with the spent fruit, we bottled the beer, allowing it to develop more complexity of flavor and spritely carbonation. The result is buoyant, effervescent, and fruit-forward, capturing the playful spirit of our neighborly Golden Retriever, the delicate richness of the fruit, and our continuing efforts to produce offerings that exemplify conscious consumption.

Bottle thanks to vin. Pours clear golden yellow, small white head, decent lacing. Aroma is hF funk, stonefruit, lemon, dusty. Flavor is light tart, light funk, stonefruit, a bit watery. Light body. Remarkable at 2%. Gimme a case.

750mL bottled May 19, 2021, drunk 8/5/22. Clear brassy-golden with an ever-so-slight rosy tint. Small, white head shows moderate-to-low retention. Mild and fruity with lovely, easygoing Brett and light plum that adds a layer without dominating the beer. Sparse, cracker and/or wheat-like grain notes support gently, as well. No alcohol or flaw. Quite aromatic and bright, clean. Soft, well-attenuated, malty and full of lively Brett with gentle plum acidity as an afterthought and just a hint of juiciness from the fruit, as well. Malts are quite soft. Everything is wonderfully balanced with no one characteristic dominating. Incredibly flavorful and drinkable.

Bottle thanks to William. Pours a hazy gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is plum skin, oak, lemon zest, mineral. Slick body, light plum, citrus, mineral, light tartness, enjoyed this.

750ml (thx, Marc-Antoine G.!) @ Sales Force. Appearance: a bit hazy blonde with a white head. Aroma: nice funk with a recognizable HF character, maybe just some generic fruity notes on the background. Taste: funky, a bit tart, no plums detected. Overall: I suppose plums have added to the body as it doesn't seem watery at all as the original. Awesome for a 2% thing.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Hazy blonde with small white head. Farmhouse yeast, light funk, not getting plums, but I do enjoy this slightly more compared to regular Charlie based on what I recall (from my rating).

750mL bottle, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out that nice farmhouse funk that HF beers are characteristic of, followed by crisp biscuity malt -- pretty laid back as expected. Flavour is nicely funky, lightly tart, and crisp; there's notes of farmhouse funk, gentle tart citrus, and crisp biscuity malt, with light acidity and tartness on the finish. Pretty flavourful for such a low ABV beer. Very good for what it is.
