a mixed culture pale ale with whole flower Vermont hops.
W.D. Funkhouser was an entomologist who studied species of Membracidae (tree hopper) and discovered several species that carry his name. ‘genus Funkhouserella’ is the first beer to be released out of our largest format oak, 12hl foudres. We used Vermont grown whole flower Nugget and Chinook hops.

Draught @ Beer Run - Harlem, Manhattan NYV (June 2025). Clear golden with a large foamy off-white head, sharp funky aroma, high carbonation, medium bitter medium tart funky malty taste, thin body, long tart finish. Nice brew.

500mL bottled May 2024, drunk 12/28/24.
Clear, pale brass-apple. Small, fleeting, white head.
Good but of lactic culture with gentle, floral hop aromatics and light Brett. Lots of stone fruit rind here. Lingering biscuit. Growing juicier with warming. Nice roundness from wood aging.
Soft, supple, with ample, well-attenuated malts. Super weird Brett character with lots of strange pepper and herbage. Juicy, round, incredibly drinkable. Very mild, pleasing tartness. Lingering vegetal, floral and peppery notes with chewy, satisfying, but quite dry, malt.

Snally: pours pale gold with white head. Peppery and spicy with citrusy notes. Funky. Interesting. Vegetal and strange.
