Borefts pre-tasting, 2018. Poured a clear dark brown colour with little life. The aroma is dry roasty malt, red berry fruit. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter with a roasty, light smoky, light fruit, light dry charcoal, light boozy, dry hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle @ home. Dark black colour, dark brown foam, disappears quickly. Roasty, notes of chocolate, caramel, hoppy finish. Very Belgian stout but enjoyable!

Pours black, foam instantly fades, but in its short lifespan looks tanned. Smell is full, sweet, tar. Taste is full, sharp, roasty, ashy, tar, very mild 'plastic' notes. Pehaps too much dark malts ? Thin bodied, especially for the ABV. Mild herbal notes. Rather high carbo. Mild chocolate in the aftertaste.

750ml bottle from BXLBeerFest. Dry, burnt and roasty with some earthiness, licorice, coffee and sweetish syrupy notes. Okay, a bit too burnt malty.

New strong stout by Oude Maalderij, sampled at Gents Bierfestival. Thin, loose head, quickly vanishing over a very dark bronze beer with ochre-brown edges - but still fully translucent in bright light. Aroma of caramel, toasted walnuts, treacle, cloves, gravy. Sweetish onset, dried fig and candied date notes, softish carb, thick caramelly and nutty malt body with a bitter chocolate edge in the end, relatively mildly roasted bitter, the bitterness accentuated by very outspoken, 'jenever'-like alcohol. Bit yeasty, too yeasty for the style, but for a "Belgian style imperial stout" (I keep maintaining that this has potential to be regarded as a subcategory in its own right), this isn't half bad, though I liked Dominator's Potion better.
