Bottle. Color: Clear orange amber, stable white head. Aroma: Fruity, Sherry notes, wood and subtle funky. Taste: Smooth, a bit vinuous, Sherry notes, fruity grape and citrus notes, quite a lot of oak wood, some tannins, subtle farmlike funk, hints of vanilla / fruity sweetness and old hop. Light to moderate tart. Medium body, below average carbonation. Well balanced. Nice.

New specialty geuze by Lindemans for this year’s ‘Toer de Geuze’, containing a seven year old lambic; huge thanks to Jo and his father for this festive bottle. Medium thick, quite large-bubbled and irregular but well-retaining, off-white head on a slightly misty deep amber-tinged orange blonde robe with a lively column of sparkling in the middle, turning cloudy with sediment. Very complex and utterly elegant aroma combining young and old lambic in the most ‘complete’ way possible: old dry sherry from the seven year old lambic, wrinkled old autumn apples, dried mandarin peel, pronounced old oak wood, oxidized red wine, rosehip, old leather, lemonbalm, dried apricot, jute bags, dusty attic, elderblossom, minerals, cooked tomatoes (the old lambic again). Crisp, fruity onset – the young lambic pushing forward notes of halfripe plums, gooseberries, unripe nectarine and some green apple but also orange peel somewhere, fizzily carbonated (‘champenoise’) with smooth, very vinous mouthfeel – the mouthfeel of a sparkling wine indeed. Soft bready core under lots of fruity, lively lactic and other acids, but always ‘mals’ and elegant, moving towards very pronounced, noble, tannic woodiness, a prelude to the full blast of old lambic richness, varying between dry sherry, bergamot, dried orange, old parmigiano and herb tea – still kept in balance by this stonefruity and citric young lambic liveliness. A truly marvellous geuze for me, perhaps even slightly surpassing the already brilliant Cuvée Francisca from the previous Toer de Geuze – containing all the nobility and maturity one can expect from a seven year old lambic, but also the vibrant, tart, fruity-citrusy character of young lambic, working with each other in absolutely perfect balance. This is what Herberg should – and doubtlessly could – have done with their Geus Genereus as well, in my humble opinion…

Quite dark, almost copper colour. Aroma is malty and oaky with a vinous note. Really soft mouthfeel. Gentle acidity, some green apple. Loads of wood.

Small off-white head, uncommonly stable over very lively carbonated clear orange-ochre beer. Intense farmyard aroma's, horseblanket, floral, citrus, sulphur. Mild flavour, almost suggesting sweetness, with wheatflavours, horseblanket. Slight toasted grains, combining with the acidburn. Some sulphur again. Light, if present acidburn and -thinning. Long lasting flavours and indeed very well carbonated. Excellent gueuze, no discussion. But I'm less than satisfied with the blurb: what exactly is meant by 7 yr. monoblend? It must be blended with young lambic (same foeder or...?), otherwise it would not be as effervescent. Is it a system of afterfilling, how is everything assembled... Explanations, please.

5/V/24 - 75cl bottle @ Toer de Geuze, BB: n/a (2024-288) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!

Cloudy orange blond beer, practically no head. Aroma: funky, earthy, orange peel, dusty, a bit oxidized, spicy, walnuts. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: nice, fruity, gentle acidity, lots of oranges, orange peel, sweet touch. Aftertaste: a bit sugary, a little bitter, orange peel, dry, spicy, very oxidized, meh. Not that good.
