Morning shower, morning grump, morning bread, morning ugly, morning breath, morning beer – yup, the combinations with “morning” are pretty much endless in Danish. But none of them is quite as perfectly beautiful as Morgenfrisk – or Morning Fresh, if we want to sound properly international. Like a squirrel waking from hibernation, perky and crisp, chest puffed out, brimming with energy. That feeling we all supposedly recognize after a truly satisfying night’s sleep, when we gaily hop on the bike, heading to work bathed in gentle morning sun. Or...
Let’s be honest; maybe that ideal feeling doesn’t really show up all that often in real‑life mornings. Which is why there’s now the BEER called Morning Fresh. We’re not claiming it cures morning grumpiness or morning breath, and honestly, we wouldn’t recommend it as your very first liquid of the day. But when you’re in need of – or have earned – a beer, that’s when Morgenfrisk steps up.
We call it a “Traditional Hybrid Bock,” which, like so many other things from Amager Bryghus, is a bit of creative nonsense. Traditional because it’s brewed with good, full malts and a classic Bock yeast. Hybrid because it’s neither light enough to be a Light Bock nor dark enough to be a Dark Bock. And with both Slovenian and American hops in the mix, a true German Bockbierliebhaber would probably make the sign of the cross seven times and call for an exorcist. But we say — relax, crack open that can with the cheeky, morning‑fresh squirrel, and enjoy what’s inside: a refreshingly Amager‑made beer.

0.44l can. Aroma is grassy, piney, caramelly and dusty. Pours cloudy dark golden color with large soapy off-white head, great lacing and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts refreshing grainy and yeasty, following is bready, herbal and nutty, mouthfeel is dry, while finish is heavy bitter. Medium to full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Didn’t have guts to drink it in the evening…

Can, 6.5%. Lagery aroma with refreshing grassy hops. Hazy dark golden colour. Big stable white head. The flavour starts off citric. Has a distinct hoppy note, spicy and flavourful. Acidic bitterness. Seems a bit much at first, but mellows out after a while. Still a bit citric in the aftertaste.
