Smooth and intense grape juice notes, hints of sourness and tart earthiness, funky farmyardy notes. Not intensely sour, quite vinous.

Bottle. Slight hazy deep red to purple. Sweet grapes, light spicy grape skins, soft funk and oak, wheat, leafy, strawberries, cherries, bitter twigs. Under medium sweet and sour and bitter. Full bodied. Nice!!

(Bottle, Cantillon Brewery, Brussels, 21 Oct 2022) Dark red colour with brief, pink head. Fruity, sourish nose with notes of grapes, red wine, blackberries, black-currant and barnyard. Fruity, tart taste with red grapes, wine, blackberries, horse stable, barnyard, hay, black-currant and a dry and tart finish. Medium body, dry. Fresh and tart, with a rich winey grenache character and balanced wood flavours. Great beer.

Bottle generously shared by Tony. Dark garnet pour with a faint white head Vinegar nose. Tasty with big vinous overtones. Slightly effervescent but not overly so. Subtle cherry backbeats. Really good body and mouthfeel.

Draft at the brewery. Pours deep red mauve with a decent white cap. Aroma is red grape, jammy red fruit, oak, light funk, red wine notes. Taste is red grape, tannins, jammy red fruit, light acidity, bit of funk. Loads of fruit on the finish with the sharp edge balancing the sweetness. This is great stuff!

Flaska från Cantillon, 2022. Varmröd med vit krona. Dov och syltig med vinbärsgele och röda druvor. Smakerna sitter någorlunda långt ner i smakbilden men ack så gott. Kvällens bästa.

Grape lambic made with Grenache Noir grapes (there is a Grenache Blanc version too), tasted from tap at Moeder Lambic Original during Zwanze Day 2022. Moussy, lilac, stable, creamy head, hazy ‘mauve’ robe with vermillion glow. Aroma of blue grape juice, ripe blue plum, ‘full’ red wine, fruit yoghurt, old wet wood, crabapple, purple gooseberries, sherry, old tawny port hint, sour cherries, sweat. Crisp sour onset, lots of juicy blue grape with lambic side notes of green apple, sour plum and ripe redcurrant, very sharply carbonated (more stingy than e.g. champagne) – probably related to the fact that this came from a tap; bready core deeply buried under lactic sourness (yoghurt), lots of blue grape juiciness and lingering ‘green’ sour fruitiness. Juicy stewed plum and ripe grape effects in the finish, matching well with drying wood and grape skin tannins – but the juiciness wins, making for a very grapey-fleshy ending. Beautiful in all respects, but overcarbonated – I should re-rate this from a bottle.
