A second beer rewatching Live Aid 40 years on, and as Philadelphia has just joined the party it's now 5pm BST on the 13th July 1985! This is a very easy brown ale (to drink and watch The Beach Boys perform at the same time) due to its strength, but not thin, although perhaps a little weak in the style. Nevertheless an underlying sweetness is flavoursome.

Tight off white head left a creamy top on a copper coloured body.
Bitter/Sweet, malt & English hop aroma.
Medium bodied, foamy dry & clean..
Malt, oatmeal, raisin, biscuit & chocolate tastes with a bitterly hopped finish.
Very Old School - Good!

Pours a clear copper-brown with reasonable beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, toffee and spicy British hops. Taste is the same with some earthy and grassy notes. Nice balance to this. Light to medium bodied, refreshing but not too thin. For the price point its a triumph.

Clear chestnut brown colour with lasting head. Pleasant nutty malt and a touch of caramel. Moderately bitter.

Bottle from local Home Bargains store – drank at home. Pours a dark chestnut with a small transient off-white head. Malts to the fore in the aroma, plus some toffee and nutty hints. In the mouth there’s a battle between sweetness and bitterness with plenty of toasted malts and caramel sweetness, offset by some spicy hops. Overall a bit watery though Bitterness seems to win in the end leading to a slightly dry finish. Quite reasonable – plenty of flavour for the strength.

500ml bottle from Home Bargains. Pale copper in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Sweetish, caramel and red berry aroma with a nutty edge. Full mouth feel, with more nutty malts with a sweet edge, leading to a gentle finish. A good brown ale.

Bottle from Home Bargains, Byfleet. Aroma is earthy, veggie, sour edge. Opaque dark brown. Thick foamy translucent off-white head. Light-medium bitter. Grainy. Burb5 caramel. Sour berry streak. Underlying veg. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Alright at best. Underpowered.

500ml bottle from Home Bargains, Westhill. It pours clear deep reddish - brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is woody, earthy, nutty, toffee, gingery spice, dried fruits and toasted fruit cake. The taste is dry, some bitterness, toasty malts, some spice, woody, nutty, earth, cereal, toffee, cacao, toasted grass and some leather accents with a dry, toasty finish. Lightish body and moderate carbonation. A surprising depth to it for the style & abv. Very drinkable stuff.
