Bottle from Biersalon in Kaufbeuren (D). Heller Weizen Doppelback aged in Cognac barrel. time of barrel ageing and bottle date not stated on the label. Best before July 2020 so maybe fairly old by now? No mention on the website of the brrewery. Although the (few) ratings on Untapp'd start in march 2019... Color: Lightly hazy golden to orange amber, very thin white head. Aroma: Grape, yellow raisins, bit vinuous and boozy (Cognac). Taste: Sweetish dried white grape, yellow raisins, bit vinuous white wine, hints of dried stone fruit, bit boozy, wheat malt. Cognac is overwhelming the base beer, not in an annoying way but I'm a fan of Cognac aged beer. Over medium body, low carbonation. Over moderate to medium sweet, light vinuous tartness and very light bitterness. Probably one of the most unique and uncommon beers I've had so far from a traditional Germany brewery. Extra point for that.
