Nice red amber. Sweet and fruity aroma, dark fruits, plums and figs. Full of candy sugar and Belgian yeast spice in the taste. Sweetness subsides and gives way to long lingering bitterness. Nice sipper, great for the last beer of a night.

Draft. A deep red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, and over ripe berries. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, metal, and over ripe beries, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle from Denman. Ruddy brown. This one poured with no head. The aroma actually smells oxidized, despite the wax. There’s some dark fruity notes...raisins and plums. Has a sweet taste, again oxidized dark fruits. Finishes with a shot of alcohol. Nothing much going on, a basic inoffensive dark Belgian.

Pours clear mahogany into a Trappist glass. White head with little retention recedes to skim surface. Dark caramel and hot pit fruit aromas. Sweet dark caramel and chocolate upfront turning to summer and pit fruit before the lasting dusty hot cocoa finish.

Tap at Watering Hole. Fairly clear deep copper with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Brown sugar, molasses, toffee, rum raisin, dried apricot and alcohol notes abound. Boozy on the palate and super sweet. The candied sugar really stands out. Belgian-like but messy. Too boozy, with a strong alcohol finish and some roasted caramel notes.
