Originally released to celebrate the brewery’s 100th brew as Govinda Centenary Gyle Head Brewers Reserve but has been brewed again since.

I am very happy to announce we have hit the 100th brew mark!
To Celebrate I have brewed an old recipe for a traditional Burton upon Trent style IPA. Brewing it was no mean feat as it required a 3 hour mash and a 3 hour boil (normally only 1hr each for my standard brews) all added up to a 15hr brewday.

Brewed using only the finest British Pale Malt and a massive charge of the Finest East Kent Golding hops from the Garden of England. Govinda should showcase what an IPA should be about a decent strength and a very firm bitterness from English Whole Flower Hops. There will be a very ltd amount available in cask with the majority being released in bottle. It will pay to buy some to store for a year or so as Govinda will change and mature for the better and is brewed to stand the ravishes of time & a life on the High Seas exploring the Tropics!

Can from the Lancashire Bottle Shop. Pours hazy amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas of floral hops, grassy notes and biscuit. Tate is citrus, more floral notes and biscuit. Lovely balance to it.

440ml can online from the brewery. Pours lightly hazed copper brown with an off white head. Aroma: biscuit malts, orange, earthy, a little resin. Taste: light sweet & moderate bitter, malt prominent, spicy hops. Medium body, light carb, semi dry finish. Good to try a heritage recipe

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a copper brown with a good cream head. Nose is a distinctive mixture of marzipan and marmalade. Inh the mouth, well some oranges at the start, but then the hops kick in in a big way. Very bitter indeed. Still some fruit at the edges if you search for it. Finish is very hoppy and fruity. This is what a proper IPA should be like. Easy drinking as well.

Bottle from Beer Zoo. Hazy amber body with a thin off-white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of marzipan, earth, vine tomatoes and blood orange. Flavour of grapefruit, Orval and grain. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Nearly excellent, but it’s slightly too sharp for me, and the balance isn’t quite there. I can’t wait to try more beers from Cheshire Brewhouse though.

Bottle, Chester Beer & Wine. Murky dark orange pour with the merest off white head. Sweet nose with a slight sourness and notes of wood, sweaty hop, pear and yeast . Gentle carbonation and soft mouthfeel. Sweetish flavour with some spicy peppery hop which produced some decent bitterness which went toe to toe with some caramel malts and booze notes into a lingering finish. Not too shabby an offering.
