Festbier 2023 has been brewed in the traditional Bavarian style using a double decoction mash to develop depth of flavour and body. Full of bread crust and hints of caramel the special ingredient in this year’s Festbier is the rare UK grown Hersbrucker hops bringing the delicate aromas and fruity, spice flavours of this classic noble hop. A low, slow fermentation and extended lagering ensures a clean, soft mouthfeel, which is full flavoured and beautifully balanced. A celebration of British growers paying homage to the classics. Truly a beer to celebrate Oktoberfest in style.

Panda thanks to Cloin. A light haze on the rich gold beer, no real head. Smooth light palate, modest fine carbonation. Light smooth malts, sweet and suitably bready. A tangy mild citrus in the mid. Very light and soft pine. Modest floral hop before a light finish. Not bad, could do with a little more noble hop bite for me.

Can at home, picked up from an online peddler whom I can't recall (HOTM?), 25/05/24. Clear golden with a good sized clean looking white head that stays for the show ... for folks who can't comprehend or bring themselves to give a 5 for appearance ... this is it! Nose is pale malts, grass, toasted grains, light herb, trace of Noble hop, subtle fruit esters. Taste comprises pale and bready malts, hedgerow, herb, fruit esters, grass, fresh bread, straw. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, semi drying close. Solid crushable logger-bier.

440ml can from Darts Farm, Topsham. Pours clear gold with white foam. Aroma: grains, light caramel, somewhat herbal. Taste: light to moderate sweet & bitter, clean, light dry, hop spice finish. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Tasty!

440ml can. Clear golden with a big white head. Aroma of pale malts and mild citrus/herbal hops. Taste of pale malts, grains, tiny suggestion of caramel, hop spice and herbal hop notes lead to a bitter finish. Clean and crisp. Great lager.
