While drinking an excellent Milk Stout from Left Handed Giant during the summer, we realised that we haven't brewed a mid strength stout for ages. So why not brew it with the people that inspired the thought. This is not a pastry stout yet it is incredibly smooth and decadent. Mashed with only 50% base malt and the rest is jammed full of flaked and Golden Naked Oats and a variety of roasted and caramel malt. Mashed with cacao husk, and conditioned on cacao nibs and vanilla this is a deliciously rich and velvety stout where the beautiful malt flavours are complimented, not dominated, by the adjuncts.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 30A: cacao husk and nibs, vanilla - base 16B). Cab 44 cl - batch 106/24 (BB: 08/2025 - Canned on 08/10/24). AROMA: initial low sulphury and metallic aroma that fades, giving place to medium roasted malt aroma. APPEARANCE: very dark brown color and opaque. medium-low light brown head with medium retention. TASTE: initial faint nuttiness followed by medium-high roasted malt flavor (almost burnt). medium-high bitterness with a roasted, dry and slightly burnt finish. MOUTHFEEL: medium-low body with medium carbonation. slight alcoholic warmth, too much for the base style. OVERALL: an oatmeal stout with added cocoa that is overwhelmed by a very strong roasted/burnt malt flavor. vanilla nowhere to be found.
