The nights are rolling in now, the streetlights are coming on a little earlier, and there’s a chill starting to cut through the air; it must mean summer has gone to bed for the year and we’re steamrolling into the Autumn and Winter months.

With the cooler evenings and the promise of huddling around a roaring fire in a pub now not too far away at all, we wanted to brew to the season and Captivated Over was our riposte to seeing our breath hanging on the air.

A modern hoppy Amber beer, generously hopped with Stateside classics Citra and Cascade for a hoppy bite of clean citrus flavours, backed up with floral notes that cut through the sweet biscuit notes of the malt base. A beer very much for the season – get your gloves on and wrap your hands around this one; winter is coming!

Can from Valhalla’s Goat. Deep golden body with a faint haze and a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of dried grass and orange peel. Flavour of orange peel and ready malt. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. The colour isn’t quite right but it’s still a tasty malty-hoppy beer.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Elusive online. Pours clear copper-gold with a modest, foamy white head. Light-medium sweet flavour with notes of sun-kissed pine, subtly toasted pale malts, orange peel, a faint plastic note, graham cracker. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderate bitterness to finish, decent piney bitterness. Very tasty overall.

440ml can. Hazy golden amber, white head, a little lighter in colour than I'd expect for the style. Aroma of pine, resin, citrus, biscuity malts, hint of caramel, quite bitter. Medium bodied. A decent amber, though it looks more like a golden.
