Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours pitch black with a small, foamy brown head. Medium sweet with old-school ashy roast, scorched earth, a little smoke, bitter cocoa. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, more strong ash, a little peat, baking cocoa. Great fun.

Bottle from House Of Trembling Madness. Jet black body with (after an aggressive pour) a tan head that holds well. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of prunes, dates and milk chocolate. Flavour of smoked malt and fig. Medium body (a touch thinner than expected) with a slick texture. Soft fizz. I didn’t get much hoppy black IPA vibes in this, it’s more of an export imperial stout. A tasty beer.

Bottle at home, 27th May 24. Pours black as feck. Atoma is peaty, roasted malts, smoke, chocolate. Taste is very peaty, smoke, roasted malts, hops, but mostly bitter, tar, light burnt molasses, it’s a great beer

330ml bottle. Pitch black with almost no head. Aroma of roasty and dark malts, liquorice, molasses, piney hops. Taste is very malt forward, dark malts, dark fruits (dates I assume), molasses, chocolate, and some citrus peel and piney hop bitterness to finish, also I did get a bit of smoke (peaty) from this unlike Garrold before me, and it was a nice touch. Medium bodied, not too boozy despite the strength. Would’ve preferred a lot more hops for a BIPA but otherwise this is great.

Bottle. High Peak Wine and Beer. Pours silky dark brown. Sits black. No real head. Looks ominous. Nose has rich dark chocolate. Prunes (that’ll be the dates then). Damson jam. Charred citrus. Cocoa powder. Taste is rich and sweet. Huge bosh of fruity vinous bitterness. Slick and fairly rich with low carbonation. ABV is well hidden. Bitterness to finish. Missus kicked off cos it’s smoky. I got zero smoke.
