We've brewed a sweet, desert style porter to quench our thirst during the cooler, damp evenings of Autumn which beckons in the near future. Inglenook is produced with a range of coloured malts, oats and rakau hops, and post-fermentation we added cacao nibs and vanilla to produce a sweet, chocolatey, roasty, nutty, and rounded porter.

Keg at the Star and Garter, Bromley. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Very sweet nose of chicory, chocolate, light coffee, caramel. Flavours of chocolate ice cream, profiteroles, cappuccino. Excellent after dinner beer.

Tap. Shakespeare’s, Sheffield. Clear, dark, cola brown. Slim ring of beige. Nose has cold brewed coffee. Vine fruit. Cocoa. Coffee sponge cake. Taste is up front, sticky sweet. A little vine fruit, dry bitterness. Medium body. Pretty sticky. Low carbonation. More sweetness to finish. Nice enough porter, but I’m sure it’s sweeter than the maple impy I just had from the same brewer.

Keg @ Station. Pours hazed dark, black, medium cream-coloured head. Aroma presents fairly strong sweet vanilla and chocolate notes. Continues to taste with a seductively smooth sweet character, lots of velvety smooth chocolate and sweet vanilla coming through. Not a beer you could spend an evening with but it's a fascinatingly flavoursome porter for the strength.

Keg @ Knott Bar, Manchester. Very dark with an off-white head. Has a fruity aroma with chocolate here too, but better in taste. Its nuts are less stated but evident. It's quite a sweet tasting brew.
