Given the small batch nature of our old Victorian brewery we have the means to develop and brew a wide range of recipes featuring an abundance of new styles of cereals and hops. We have long been impressed by the crisp and refreshing character of the cereal Rye and with the combination of Pilgrim hops with our other ingredients and the famous Theakston yeast strain, we have created a full bodied, spicy brew using as the principal cereal, the hardy Rye plant which we know will delight our customers!

Half-pint, cask ale at Five Swans. Wetherspoon Beer Festival, March -24. Off-white head to a deep rustic dark body, crocheted lacing. Indeed, good looking! Inviting aromas of caramel and dark fruits. Quite similar taste of dark fruits, toffee, and caramel. Rounded malt-fruity tail. Like it. (Newcastle upon Tyne, 19.03.2024).

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a deep ruby with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – just some vague fruity hints. In the mouth its starts off slightly sweet with a creamy texture, and flavour of spices, honey and rye malts. Some bitterness comes through later alongside hints of plums and caramel, leading to a slightly spicy finish. Not bad at all – definitely better thn I’d been led to believe.

[Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell.] A reddish chestnut pour with a tight cream head; ripe berry aroma; smooth in the mouth with a malty body and lots of berries- strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and some tart blueberry; then a pleasantly bitter finish with some caramel and chocolate to round things off. Very drinkable.

Third of a pint, hand-pulled in my local Spoons on 10th March 2024. Red hue to the clean amber body, the head an off-white affair. Semi-sweet malty taste, caramel and red berries came to mind as I sipped it, this was the best of the six I had during my little tasting session.

Cask handpull at Shakespeare Head Holborn. Clear deep russet colour lasting tan head. Rich red beer. Good malts. Some red fruits. Some bitterness on the finish. This is about a slightly sweet malty beer. Which I thought quite attractive. Yes I quite liked it.
