500 ml shared by Willrunforbeer. The aroma is really enjoyable. Roasted grain, caramel candies, Toasted oats, melted chocolate and ale yeast. I know this a Porter with an ABV at 7.5 but it really drinks reminiscent of a stout. The oats really give the texture a much needed boost. Some sugar gives a slight fullness. The darkened barley gives a lingering note throughout. It also displays some much needed bitterness to cut the sweetness. Earthy bitterness comes out more as it warms. Honestly for the Porter classification, this is done really well.

Fresh 2015 bottle drunk 7/21/15
Fantastic, well-carbonated pour shows a massive dark tan head that is very well-retained, atop an ebony body. Clarity is moderately high, leaving the sediment behind.
Fresh, plastery yeast in the nose mixes with plentiful chocolate and very reserved coffee/roast notes. Incredibly well-balanced in the nose, and I love how live the beer smells, and, to that end, how delightful the yeast is. Not plasticy/rubbery or heavily estery/phenolic. Smells like a nice, fresh, bright English porter on cask. Hops help keep the rich malts in check, adding very light citrus and juicy fruit notes, but remaining in the background. Light vanilla and graham cracker notes linger on the end. No alcohol or flaws noted.
Big, malty flavors abound upon first sip: milk chocolate, bakers chocolate, dark cocoa and rich vanilla. It’s all whisked about the palate by a tight, ample carbonation providing, in concert with the malt, a very creamy, silky texture. Hop notes provide moderate bitterness to balance, with wintergreen and ever-so-light grapefruit flavors. Balance is excellent, tending a bit sweet, with no sign of the alcohol. Nice to see a straightforward, near flawlessly-executed version of the style. Can’t drink this stuff very often, as I just don’t care for malty and dark, but this was one of the better examples I’ve had in a long time.
