Panda, courtesy of SHIG, pours with a copper brown colored body that has thin copper hued edges and supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up boozy reduced sugars like toffee and molasses as well as prune to fig like fruity esters and then ending with a brown sugar sort of booziness. The taste delivers thick slippery sweet malt sweetness creating a silky slip-n-slide into the other notes. Toward midway a toffee / brown sugar / molasses blend of reduced sugar move in and help introduce the modest booziness that takes this into the finish. Another sip reveals murmurs of faint date and prune sweet fruity ester notes. Nice stuff.

Panda thanks to Cloin: Poured a caramel brown with a bubbly tan head that formed a ring. Aroma is malty, dark fruits, figgy, caramel, prunes. Taste is boozy, rich malts, dark fruits, figs, caramel, marmalade, alcohol. Leaves a tanginess in the finish.

Panda thanks to Cloin. A light haze on this deep amber beer, small bubbly tan head. A slightly viscous palate but it's also paradoxically light and has a very good fine minerally crispness for the style. Smooth malts, a good caramel and cream with a pleasing but mild toffee streak. Vibrant ripe fruits, touches of brandy and port wine, whisper of marmalade. Some spice, almost hop spice. on the end along with a nice light savoury note. A lovely rich but light and crisp barleywine. Wasn't expecting anything like this, a real surprise and a real treat. Long spicy linger.

Bottle at home, pretty sure I got this direct from Marble online a year or so ago, 04/04/24. Clear chestnut brown with a decent enough light beige cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is caramel, biscuit, bread pudding, light spice, dark malts, figs, dates, nutty tang. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, toffee, brown sugar melt, molasses, figgy jam, caramel wafer, Oxford orange marmalade rinds, kiss of alcohol. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost and a trace of earthy hop bitterness. Solid old Skool base of a Barley Wine with a modern twist also. LIFE!

(Keg at Captain Corvus, 20230105) The beer poured pale mahogny coloured and nearly clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, toffee, raisins, earth and prunes. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, toffee, raisins, prunes, earth, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, dry and bitter. A pleasant malty brew that hid its high ABV well.

Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours reddish brown, almost purple, with a nice head of fluffy white foam, fine. Aroma is intense of molasses and caramel, figs, fruity. Body is actually slightly thin, with limited carbonation, but veeery sticky. Taste is markedly sweet, even aggressive. Final is long but fairly delicate.

Bottle. Nose is toffee, caramel, hints of fudge, brandy, hint of banana very fruity, brown sugar, vanilla, faintest hint of earth or maybe even tobacco. Taste is rich very fruity, strawberry, peach, hints cream and vanilla, very faint banana, caramel, hint of pear drop, hints toffee, toffee apple, brown sugar, a bitter marmalade note stops it becoming cloying. Slightly medicinal hops and very very very faint tobacco in the finish. Mouth feel is rich and pillowy. Looking back on my notes of 2019 there are clearly many comparable elements, but I am enjoying this edition a great deal more. It's rich but not as cloying and doesn't seem as sweet. Delicious.
