Late Red is a complex, richly-flavoured autumn hop ale. With an appropriately Autumnal auburn hue, this premium beer achieves a perfect balance between rich, dark malt flavours, and a strong, robust hoppiness.
The finest pale ale malt and gently-kilned crystal malt is brewed with Cascade and East Kent Goldings to create a hoppy flavour, double enhanced with the late copper addition of East Kent Goldings and Cascades added to the cask for racking.
Plum, prunes, raisins, a touch of toffee and tropical fruit are just of the flavour flourishing beneath the crimson-copper coloured cloak of this eminently easy-drinking ale.

Clear 500ml bottle, best before Aug 09, drank Nov 08. Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru glass. Deep amber reddy coloured beer with a good off white foaming head (at first). Claims to be an Autumn Hop Ale, there was a hoppy aroma, but not very strong, I detected more sweetness like moslasses and caramel/toffee. Tangy and spritzy, it tastes almost sharp and with a dryness that bites. It gets drier in the aftertaste as well. The rear label says it is rich, well it isnโt in my opinion, it is a bit watery for a 4.5% brew with very little depth of body. Not the best beer from this brewery, that I believe produces too many average beers instead of concentrating on their better, core products.

[500ml bottle, gift from my wife - cheers!] Lovely looking beer - deep amber-red with a large creamy head. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with a light fizz. Rich aroma of fruit and toffee. Unfortunate metallic tang of pasteurisation at first, but soon rich toffee and woodland mulch take over. There a decent amount of hoppage - a little lemon, flowers and a flicker of pine. The crystal malt is very evident, but thatโs OK in an autumn-style ale, and thereโs just about enough hops to balance. Unfortunately the pasteurisation returns with a slightly cardboardy finish, but considering how heavily pasteurised this is it still manages to put in a surprisingly good performance. Without the pasteurisation this could be a truly great beer.

Bottle. Auburn pour with a fading, foamy whitish head. Some citrusy fruits on the nose with some semi-sharp malts. Fairly well balanced flavor, some honey and fructose, mild bread, light floral and citrus hops. Light to medium in body with lively carbonation. Malts, light alcohol and faint, earthy and fruity bitterness. Very average.
