Tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam, 15th January 25. Pours a hazy yellow orange. Aroma is lemons, candy, citrus. Taste is bitter, aromatic and pithy, soft and elegant but with a bite, shit the bed this is a great DIPA.

NEDIPA by a Canadian craft brewery whose products are apparently quite sought after; thanks to Martijn for sharing the can on Proevertjesdag. Snow white, open ring of mousse on a milky pale lemon-yellow robe. Aroma of toasted ‘Bicky burger’ onions, honey pomelo, grapefruit zest, carambola, meringue, some sweaty dankness, green mango. Citrusy onset to the extreme, this is Citra hop at its brightest indeed, a wave of honey pomelo, lime and orange with side notes of mango and guava; medium carb, soft and rounded mouthfeel with a bit of ‘prickliness’ but ultimately ‘doughy’ core deeply soaked in this combo of citrusy and tropical hoppiness, utterly radiant and ‘summery’, with a nice oniony edge reminiscent of the West Coast IPAs from before they were specified as ‘West Coast’ – a nice touch to the NEIPA idiom you do not encounter often. Some grapefruity bitterness develops too, warmed by a subtle glow of alcohol, but the ‘bright’ side of the hops triumphantly prevails in every corner of this beer. I understand the popularity of these Messorem IPAs: this is, by all standards, excellent in its intended style, with a few surprises even. It has been a long time since I had a hazy IPA of this quality level.

Cloudy light beige beer, small creamy white head, unstable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: lovely, super dank hops, fruity, citrus, onions, very nice, lovely smell! MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: oh my, super good, very dank hops, juicy, tropical fruits, juicy, citrus. Aftertaste: more tropical fruits, juicy, dank hops, good bitterness, very hoppy, herbal touch, a bit resinous, very nice stuff, I really love it! One of the best beers of 2025!
