Bottle. Nose is roast, dough, a noticeable sweet ginger bread note which sits alongside the roast. Taste is chocolate, fruit, leading, light bitterness to a subtly spiced warming finish, with a building ginger. This is a beer which balances good seasoning, with allowing the base beer to show through. Very nice. Edit 2020: Amazed it's been 3 years since I last had it. As above but the chocolate seems to come through more richly than I remember, not sure what the fruit I found before was, I can detect more soy, and a little salt. It still has the nuanced and building ginger. Runaway produce such well balanced beers.

Keg @ Victorian Craft Beer Café, Halifax. Black with a thin off-white head. Stated in its roasted malts, but the spicy enough gingerbread stamps its own character on the ale too.

Keg at CASC. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, sweet, juicy, fresh gingerbread, roasty, light cocoa and spice. The taste is bitter-sweet, roasty, earth, chocolate ice cream, gingerbread, toasty brown sugar, charred wood and char with a smooth, lightly bitter finish. Medium+ body, fine carbonation and slick mouth-feel. Smooth and pretty delicious. Very well done.
