In collaboration with our friend North Pacific Kelp, we utilized four different varieties of kelp locally sourced from Haida Gwaii. The use of kelp in both the mash and whirlpool provides a distinct sea-like saltiness and earthy aromatics with a pleasant minerality.

Draft at brewery. Roasted malt aroma. Chocolatey notes. Flavors of dark earthy malt, bittersweet chocolate. Notes of cardamom and black pepper. Smooth and drinkable. Bitter, dry finish.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has earthy dark grains and roast with a bit of earthy seaweed coming through. Flavor has strong roast and kelp with some bitter dark grains backing.

473 ml can. Pours a dark brown with full light tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, plastic and salty chocolate. Flavors of roasted malts and a huge dose of kelp; and not in a good way. Almost a drain pour after having an 8.4 rated beer.

Poured from 473mL can. Very dark brown with small beige head. Lots of roast malt on the nose, mostly a roast malt forward brew with some very feint salty green kelp notes in the background (like those you would find in a side dish at a Korean restaurant).

On tap at Luppolo, pours a deep dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, a touch of cocoa, and a touch of seaweed. Flavour has nice toasted malt, cocoa, and some earthiness. Not getting the kelp here, but pleasant malt character. Good.
