Keg on the brewery tap split with Stevoj on our Oxford crawl, 19/05/18. Rich mahogany brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is stewed fruits, light candy, caramel, mild spice. Taste comprises toffee, dried fruits, dates, brown bread, spice, fruit cake. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent Dubbel ... good balance ... never to sweet.

Keg from Castle Tap, Reading. Mid- to dark mahogany brown, translucent, with a small cream-coloured head. Belgian yeast, candy sugar, allspice and dried currants in the aroma. Sweet taste with molasses and brandied fruit, with a touch of earthy hop rounding out the finish. A tough style to pull off, but they absolutely nailed it.

Bottle from Upton Smokery, nr Burford, Oxfordshire. Chestnut-hued with a thin beige head. The fizz is rather prickly for my liking but does eventually die down a little to reveal a smooth full mouthfeel. Chocolate, a little banana and plum, some roasty malt and a light spiciness. Generally sweetish but with a light dryness at the end. I thought I'd gone off Belgian styles but this is pretty good.

Keg at Tap Social, Botley, Oxford, Friday 28th April 2017 Reddy brown with a slim off white rim, with a nice reddy glint. Soft in the mouth, candi sugar, warming and with a lovely spiciness. Really good and if I was in Belgium (and I am very often) I would be very happy supping this. A7 A4 T7 P4 OV14 3.6
