Beer tasted at mcbackus tasting courtesy of daknole. Pours dark with two inch mocha head. The aroma is roasty, earthy, even has a mild zing of something off. The taste is the same with roasted malts moving toward burnt malts, coffee and chocolate malts to go along with some malt astringency in the finish. It gets more and more burnt into the finish with more ounces consumed and finishes feeling a bit watery.

Black pour with a little light getting in around the edges - smallish tan head - very roasty aroma, with earthy, woody, leathery notes, some faint dark fruit, and vinous character - semi-dry, with dark coffee bitterness - leather and tobacco are complimented by this character - very faint plum and a light sweetness underneath everything else - a very nice stout.

Poured a deep black with a fast fading tan head. Smells of dark fruits and malt. Very heavy roasted malt flavor with hints of chocolate and nuts. Sourish finish that is slightly bitter with coffee. Only medium bodies with a medium mouthfeel. Nice beer, but not a great stout.

2004 bottle compliments of Bucknaked. Great pour. Opaque black with some dark cherry-mahogany brown tinges. Great mocha beige brown head. Aroma is amazing for a dry stout. This dosent have the nitro in it so you can actually smell and taste this beer (ps. I dont like nitrogen in beers). Anyways, wow is this stuff good. Roasty, dry and malty. Black malt, lots of great chewy malt and all kinds of fun dark fruits and flavors (anise, dark coffee, some thick bacon fat). Can McNeills make a more balanced better mouthfeeling beer?? I dont know how they control the mouthfeel this well on their beers, but it’s great. Awesome beer, one of my favorites from them. Influenced heavily by the imperial, though take out the extreme hopping and some of the extra gravity.
