Not much to this review. Filtered, clear mahogany-chartreuse-tinted black beer with a moderate amount of rapidly dissipating beige head that leaves little/no lacing.
Nose is weak, slightly chalky, showing light roast, some cola sweetness, minor fruitiness and LOTS of thick, rich butter.
I don’t understand how some people report no diacetyl and yet this bottle is just swimming in it. The diacetyl couldnt possibly develop after the beer has been sterile-filtered and (I believe) pasteurised, could it? I mean, everyone knows that Magic Hat’s yeast is a huge diacetyl producer, and thus you’d think the diacetyl already present at bottling. But yet, so many people mention nothing of it....I don’t know, I havent figured it out.
Well I only took a few sips of this before pouring it out. Sweet toffee and dry caramel mix with some dark fruits before giving way, almost completely, to a rich buttery diacetyl flavor. Forced carbonated texture isnt particularly pleasant, nor is the washed out mouthfeel. Pretty tough review, but I’m just so sick of the same ’ol crap from MH. So many brewers produce countless bottled beers without ever having a diacetyl problem. No excuses.

Clear very dark ruby body with a large frothy light brown head. Roasted malt and caramel aroma. Sweet roasted malt flavor with a coffee bitter background. Closer to a slightly watered down porter in my opinion.

12 oz bottle...head disapates very quickly...smells malty color is like a pepsi, only darker...tastes really watery with a little malt in the finish and some mocha...its ok but it seems like its missing something in the middle of the palate

Tap at HDG - a decent beer from magic hat - light cocoa in the aroma, with a slight hint of chocolate malt - semi-dry, with a kind of coffee and cream character - a little bit of vanilla bean near the end - overall, nothing to write home about, but good for one go.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small head. Smells of cocoa, coffee, and a bit of roasted nuts. Flavor is pleasant- a bit of roated malts and a smooth finish. Tasty, not overwhelming.

Dark clear brown with a thin off white head. Sweet caramel malt with notes of cloves, fruity esters, quite nice. In mouth, a rich peaty malt with nutty notes, oily mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Free taster sample at Blue Tusk, Syracuse, NY. Shared with Kprobst.
