1 pint can. Pours hazy dark brown with a creamy and brown head. Aroma is sweet and roasted malty. Sweet caramelish, slight breadish. Toasted malty. Light bitterness lurking through. Lasting sweet breadish finish.

Reviewed from notes.
Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a two finger off white foamy head that dissipated at a decent pace. Messy sliding lace.
The aroma had some dark bread, baker’s chocolate, grassy to earthy hops, sweet coffee notes, light toast, and some dark fruits.
The flavor was moderately sweet with the malty tones pulling the hops down pretty low as I hoped it would. Nice long bready aftertaste and finish.
The palate was almost medium bodied but sitting just a touch under with a practically perfect smooth sessionable sort of feel rolling over my tongue. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good.
Overall, really nice doppelbock well worthy of having again.

Draught at MW’s 8th anniversary, 10/17/15.
Deep, dark purple tinged mahogany body does not seem to show much clarity. Dark beige head atop fades slowly to cover.
Deep, bitter baker’s chocolate notes in the nose with light anise, vanilla, berries and leafy hop resins. No alcohol or flaw.
Big chocolate malt notes outshine even the light melanoidins and berry-like fruity notes. Fresh hop notes are lightly dank, leafy, with a pinch of citrus and are interspersed nicely breaking up the malts which are certainly rich, though not syrupy or too sweet. As everyone has said, it’s certainly not a by-the-book rendition, but the dark fruitiness/melanoidins certainly keep it not too far off track. Like a blend of a hoppy porter and a German doppelbock and quite enjoyable, if perhaps a bit too chocolatey, overall. Ample carbonation and malty texture with no flaws or alcohol noted (which is also impressive given its strength).

A clear dark brown bock with a thick brown head. In aroma, good oily molasses, dark fruits, chocolate, light acidic points. In mouth, a nice and smooth bock with chocolate, acidic points, coffee grinds, surprising. Rich and balanced. On tap at Novare Res, April 2 2010.

on tap-pours a light tan head and deep red color. Aroma is fruity, sweet medium malt. Taste is fruity-plum, sweet medium malt-chocolate/caramel. OK carbonation. Towards medium body.
