Pours deep amber into a tulip. Bright white head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Clove and bubblegum aromas. Dry with earthy caramel, banana and clove upfront turning to mild pepper in the medium length finish.

Draught at Brick and Mortar, 5/13/15
Ugly looking mahogany-brass body shows a mild haziness and has absolutely no head, nor can any be coaxed forth.
Spicy phenolics in the nose mix with moderately dry brown sugar notes with soft suggestions of vanilla and maple. Warming unveils more sweetness, but also some earthy/musty yeast notes and crunchy/biscuity maltiness that is welcome. No alcohol or flaws in the nose.
The flavor is a mixed bag. On one hand, it’s a sweet beer, which right away turns me off when we’re talking Belgian. On the other hand, the sweetness is very well-balanced by an intriguing pepperiness and almost a creme brulee-like burnt sugar flavor. The carbonation, while a bit too loose, does still have enough force to clear away some of the sweetness. Just seems like if this was a bit more dry and in better condition (tighter carbonation), it would actually be quite stunning. I’ve found Riverwalk’s beers to all be quite watery/undercarbonated.

Growler filled at the brewery 2 hours ago by phatdog1, thanks Craig. Snifter shows orange color no head. Aroma of yeast, Peppercorn’s and straw. Flavor is peppercorn donate with a big peppery finish. I almost get nothing else but pepper.
