Draught at the brewery 5/24/14
Moderate off-white head tops a moderately hazy ruddy-brown body.
Oily, borderline acetic tartness in the nose seems a bit out of place though for a traditionally barrel-aged style, it’s probably more on-style than recent tradition would have it. Light medium malts divulge caramel and prunes, with bright cherries on the end. No alcohol or other flaws noticed.
Lightly sour in the mouth, with plentiful fruitiness and a fairly substantial mouthfeel, ending medium-sweet and with lots more esters and phenols. Past the handful of surviving French biere de gardes, this style seems one of the most open to interpretation of any out there. Belgian yeast? Check. Tending slightly malty? Check. That’s about all I know about BdGs.

Draft at the brewery. Pours hazy gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has rich bread, creme caramel, hints of orange. Medium sweet flavor with nicely layered, bready malts, touches of toffee, some dough, biscuits. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet and lightly sugary on the finish, some sponge cake, understated toffee, hints of ripe citrus fruits, faint toasted hay bitterness. Solid for the style. Quite drinkable.
