Dark brown pour. Nose is maple and dark chocolate. Tastes of some maple syrup, plum, fig, molasses, earth. Oily texture. Some alcohol present.

Been cellaring this one for a while, time to try. Pours a dark copper colour, looking like cola with red highlights. The head is huge, huge and stays forever (can I drink this someday ??). Coffee nose with some mild sweetness, roasted malts and dark fruits. When taking control of the head, so it would not overflow, could taste the maple a lot. The taste itself starts off with the roasted grains, the dark fruits and then, the syrup shows up some mild sweetness in the finish, with the coffee notes. Quite good, but does get a little rich after a full bottle !

This was poured into an English pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thin off white almost to tan foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Lacing was there and leveled off at a nice pace.
The smell had vanilla bean up front with a nice roasty note to it complemented by a rich to sweet cocoa and coffee bliss roaming all about.
The taste was mainly sweet with a nice roasty and semi-bitter balance to it. Coffee, cocoa, vanilla, light maple and subtle dark fruits all come together in the taste to blend really nicely.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable feel to it. Carbonation feels nice (fairly low), allowing the dark fruits to try and make a subtle stickiness, still the dryness from the coffee bean slides in for the balance on the feel.
Overall, so did they use a lager yeast for this, I don’t know but judging by the feel, I’d say they might have, hmmm....not sure. Still, its a nice Baltic Porter that I would have again.

Purchased in Warren, VT at a wine shop for a price of $7.99. Massive head that took 5 minutes to die before I could even attempt to sip the black liquid in the snifter. Aroma of burnt malts, coffee grounds, light vanilla hints.
Flavor had mild maple upfront , roasted nuts, dying vanilla beans in a fuller body. Man the flavor here is good if they can just tone down the carbonation. The body seems to be thinner than it should be. Of course it could be the Co2 playing tricks on my palate. I will re-rate this if I can get a draft sample because this bottle was a mess. My rating is based on flavor alone….

Sample at the brewery on 2/7/14
Inky black pour shows lighter brown tints on the edges. Head is fleeting.
Cocoa and moderate roast in the nose has a touch of chalkiness to it, perhaps a little dullness from the yeast? Little to no hoppiness and more charred notes emerged with warming. Good balance, not too dry and astringent or tannic, nor is it too sweet.
Soft, rather loose body has a somewhat oily texture, with char and chocolate providing most of the malt flavor. Light touch of prune-like vinousness on the end and a touch more malt sweetness as it warms. No alcohol apparency. As with the rest of their beers, could use some better/tighter carbonation to give these things less of a loose/watery feel, but the flavors are clean and strong, otherwise.
