Bottle thnx to Jan and Charlotte themselves ! Thnx ! Pours very muddy brown, the beer indeed looks awefull. Not sure this is the exact product of using dark malts + yeast that doesn't floculate, or rather a product of added murkyness? Any option it is though, the beer indeed doesn't look very good. Small darker head that has a short life, not too much lacing. Smell is brightly hoppy (still) showing notes of citrus, mild resins, brown malts (earthy, faded chocolate). Taste is bitter, over a citrussy, bit tropical back. The brown malts here give it an astigent, plastic-like side character that's not very enjoyable. A total experience is a bit off by this factor, as the beer enters the palate very clinical, and rough. It's got nothing I would associate with the name 'Vermont' (AKA New England style) so I wonder why this beer is called Vermont style? Perhaps due to the murkyness ( like I said, not sure if this is even a natural murkyness) Overall, the beer isn't plain bad at all, but it just doesn't work well all together,

330ml bottle. Pours murky dark brown with a lot of sediment, beige head. Aroma of citrus, tropical fruits, dank. Taste of light sweet juicy tropical fruits, citrus, a hint of caramel, little to no roast/malt character makes it feel a little unbalanced, dank moderately bitter finish. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation (perhaps a touch over-carbed). A very tasty Black NEIPA, if a little unbalanced.

Bottle, 330 ml, courtesy of JFK10000. Shared with him and Max. Pours brown with beige head. Beautiful aroma, hoppy, dank?, some pine, malty, caramel. Nice citrus juiciness, very unusual for this style. Bitterish finish. Nice. Medium bodied. Cheers Jan!

07-02-18 // 330ml bottle. Purchased at BeerLovers Craft Beer Store. Congratulations Jan! Murky Spezi-like brown beer with bubbly head. Toasted malty, mild roasted. Lemon zest and woody moss hop aroma. Easy drinking but not special, expected a bit more, especially on the roasted mlalt side.

Bottle at home from DeBierkonig, Amsterdam, 20th January 18. Pours a murky dark brown, not great. Aroma is juicy fruit, tropical and cocoa, dark chocolate. Taste is sweet and juicy like a NEIPA, then cocoa, some bitterness. Great take on a BIPA, unique as far as I have experienced.

Bottle at Arendnest, shared by Goedele. Apparently an attempt (and the first one I encounter, now that I come to think of it) to create a dark counterpart for the current NEIPA craze, curious how this will work out... Medium, pale greyish beige, quickly opening head lacing in patches, over a murky dark chestnut brown beer - not completely black, and looking like very dark mud with the sediment added. Lovely aroma though: maracuja, mango, orange peel, caramel candy, cashewnuts, lime peel, grape juice, sweet onions. Fruity onset, orange and passionfruit notes, guava, sourish hint, vivid but (fortunately) finely tingling carbonation; doughy, creamy, sweet 'brown' malt body, caramelly and 'soggy bready', about the mouthfeel you'd expect from a NEIPA but lacking in the toasty bitterness a typical BIPA would contain. Ends very aromatic, pink grapefruit, mango, passionfruit, pomegranate - a basket of hoppy fruitiness, adding only very soft bitterness on the tongue and followed by a weak glow of otherwise very well-masked alcohol. I'd call this a brown NEIPA rather than a black one, but the idea is appealing and admittedly well-executed, even if it looks like mud mixed with chocolate milk...
