Our fourth collab with Northern Monk, hence the name, hence the quad-y type beer! This beer tastes of cherry drops & cake icing with a brandy nose & stone fruit richness. There's marzipan packed with figgy and medjool dates. Flavours of all sweet and sticky things steeped in some delicious liqueur. It’s certainly one to savoir & will bear the test of time, just like our brewerhood with our Northern Monk friends.

(Draught at Craft Beer Co St Mary Axe, Aldgate, London, 24 Nov 2017) Reddish brown colour with brief, foamy head. Malty, fruity, vinous nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel and red fruit. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, red fruit, some oak wood, cherries and a fairly low bitterness in a warming, vinous finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty barley wine, with leanings in the old ale direction. Nice one.

Bottle courtesy of Geraint and Helen, shared with Dad, Sunday 24th December whilst cooking Chicken Bhuna, Dal Nathaniel and Tonka Bean Ice Cream. The nose is a little boozy, I also get sticky dark fruit, some dates perhaps. A little bit boozy, spicy and warming, very warming. There is no denying that it is a little fruit cake, it's good, really good and drinks far easier than 11+%. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Craft St Mary Axe. Keg. Hazy reddish amber beer, no head. Palate is light and mildly dry and minerally crisp. Malts are light and sweet, thin caramel. Sweet esters. Ripe fruits, especially orange and cherry. Mild spice. Dry finish. Has a charm but pretty thin for a big abv barleywine.

Keg at CBC Mary Axe, 27/10/17. Murky chestnut brown with a thin beige cap that soon dissipates to nothing. Nose is fruit cake mix, toffee, light spice, stewed fruits, dates, nutty, light booze waft. Taste comprises sweet licks, fruit loaf, marzipan, toasted brown sugar, dates, candied fruit peel. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Decent sipper.
